Eric Otieno Sumba

Dr. Eric Otieno Sumba is a writer, editor, and independent researcher with a background in social theory, political economy, postcolonial studies, and art criticism. He is currently editor (publication practices) at Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW). He has recently edited ‘Memory in Motion – Sites of Learning and Remembrance of Colonialism in Germany’(2026), ‘Global Fascisms’(2025), ‘Destination Tashkent: Experiences of Cinematic Internationalism’(2024), and ‘Echos of the Brother Countries: Visions and Illusions of Anti-Imperialist Solidarity’(2024), among others. Curatorial projects (with SPAZIO GRIOT) include annual exhibitions and public programmes (2022-2025), and an Artist Residency (since 2024), both in Rome. His cultural criticism and essays have appeared in Contemporary And (C&), Camera Austria, Berlin Review, frieze, The Guardian, Griotmag, London Review of Books, The Public Review, Texte zur Kunst, and the Catalogue of the Dutch Pavillion at the 61st Venice Biennale (2026), among others.
