Alterity & Design

Salon Universitas is an experimental transdisciplinary cooperation between the Kunsthochschule Kassel, Universität Kassel and the Satellite Salon, Berlin. The project aims to promote interdisciplinary and creative dialogue between the University and Art School in Kassel and facilitate future collaborations. The salon evenings are held in the Kunsthochshule and each address a different theme. They are curated and hosted together with students of the Kunsthochschule and the Universität Kassel. Each salon consists of followed by a discussion over dinner. The speakers and guests include academics, researchers and students from Kassel, artists working internationally, and curators and representatives of other Kassel institutions.

Salon Universitas was initiated by Prof. Ella Ziegler (Kunsthochschule Kassel), and Lucy Powell (artist and co-initiator of Satellite Salon) in cooperation with Prof. Heike Klussmann (Universität Kassel).

At the December 2017 Salon, i participated as a Speaker. I spoke on Design and Alterity, and how notions of alterity in relation to Africa continue to blur our perceptions with regard to paradigm shifts in design and aesthetics emerging from African contexts.
